The Origins of London Mule

The London Mule (or Foghorn) is a variant of the Moscow Mule cocktail. The Moscow Mule was created in the 1940s when two people met: one with a surplus of vodka, the other with a surplus of ginger beer. Wes Price, a bartender at the Cock n' Bull decided to combine these two products and add lime: the famous Moscow Mule was born. It then became very popular in the United States.

Several variations of this cocktail then appeared: the Mexican Mule (or Muletta) made with tequila, the Kentucky Mule with bourbon, the London Mule with gin.

The name London Mule was chosen to highlight the origin of the gin. One can imagine different twists on this recipe by adding watermelon juice, blackcurrant syrup, etc.
